Quick Speech does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any text you read aloud or any personal information. All text-to-speech processing happens entirely on your own device.
What information we access
Quick Speech only accesses the text you choose to have read aloud:
- Highlighted text — when you right-click selected text on a webpage and choose “Read aloud.”
- Typed or pasted text — when you enter text directly into the extension’s popup.
We do not access your general browsing history, the full content of webpages, or any other browser data beyond the specific text you select or enter.
How text-to-speech works
Quick Speech uses your browser’s built-in Web Speech API (speechSynthesis) to convert text to audio. This processing happens entirely within your own browser and operating system — the text is never sent to our servers or any third party, because we don’t operate any servers at all.
What we store
Quick Speech uses Chrome’s sync storage to save the following directly tied to your Chrome account:
- Your selected voice, speed, and pitch preferences
- The last text you typed into the popup, so it’s there when you reopen it
- Your dark mode preference
This data syncs across your own Chrome browsers using Google’s Chrome sync infrastructure, the same way bookmarks or settings sync. We do not have our own servers and never receive or see this data ourselves.
Third-party services
Quick Speech does not call any external APIs or third-party services. No text is ever transmitted over the network for processing.
Quick Speech does not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking services of any kind.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share any user data with third parties, because we never receive or store any of it ourselves.
Children’s privacy
Quick Speech does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, since no information is ever collected or transmitted to us.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
