Quick Weather — Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 22, 2026
Quick Weather does not collect, store, sell, or share any personal information. All data stays on your device.
What information we access
Quick Weather only accesses the information necessary to show you the weather:
- Your approximate location — if you allow it, used once to detect your current city automatically when you have no cities added yet. You can decline this and add any city manually instead.
- Location search terms — the city name or zip code you type into the extension.
- Weather data — fetched from the free, public Open-Meteo API based on your selected cities.
Location access is entirely optional. It is only used to look up your current city name and is never used to track your movement, never stored on any server, and never shared with anyone.
What we store
Quick Weather uses Chrome’s local storage to save the following directly on your device:
- Up to 5 saved cities (name and coordinates)
- Your preferred temperature unit (°F or °C)
- Your dark mode preference
- Whether the toolbar temperature badge is enabled
- Recently fetched weather data, cached briefly to make the popup load faster and to keep the toolbar badge current
None of this information ever leaves your device or is transmitted to us. We do not operate any servers that receive or log this data.
Background updates
Quick Weather periodically refreshes weather data every 30 minutes in the background so the temperature shown on the toolbar icon stays current. This only fetches public weather data for your saved cities — it does not access your browsing activity, open tabs, or any other browser data.
Third-party services
When you search for a location or allow location detection, Quick Weather sends coordinates or search terms to Open-Meteo, a free and open weather data provider, in order to retrieve current conditions and forecast data. To convert your coordinates into a city name during automatic detection, we also use the free reverse geocoding service at BigDataCloud. We do not control these providers’ data practices; you can review their own policies on their websites.
Quick Weather does not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking services of any kind.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share any user data with third parties. We do not have access to your stored data — it lives only in your local browser storage.
Children’s privacy
Quick Weather does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, since no information is collected or transmitted to us in the first place.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
